Support Scouting Worldwide with the World Friendship Fund

Ways Your Troop Can Help Scouts Worldwide

Scouts are always prepared to lend a helping hand to someone in need. It's just who we are. The BSA is proof that people can make a positive impact on the lives of others when they embody the spirit of kindness, courtesy, and bravery. The World Friendship Fund aims to encourage these values by helping Scouting associations in other countries to strengthen and extend their Scouting programs.

Do a Good Turn with the World Friendship Fund

If Scouts are made aware of a need, they will rise to the occasion. Whether it's a contribution of $10 or $1000, every dollar helps Scouting thrive in communities that lack the resources. If you're a Scout or Leader who wants to encourage their unit to participate in the World Friendship Fund, here are some ideas to help you achieve a worldwide Good Turn.

How Does My Contribution Help the World Frienship Fund?

Transparency is critical when it comes to making charitable donations. Knowing how your dollar impacts the WFF encourages future contributions. Since the World Friendship Fund was established after World War II, BSA members have donated more than 11 million dollars. Over the years, this fund has allowed Scouts worldwide to expand the Scouting Movement. Collected contributions are used to assist in developing National Scout Organizations (NSOs) in communities that lack financial resources. Any NSO recognized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WSOM) can submit a grant request for projects to enhance its growing organization. Every February, May, and October, the USFIS committee reviews these grant requests.

Ways Your Troop Can Help the World Frienship Fund

  • Plan a world brotherhood night. The Scouts could research a Scout association in a different country and share that information—even prepare food traditionally served in that country.
  • Set a financial goal for your unit. Ask the pack, troop, team, or crew members to take on particular assignments. Discuss fundraising projects.
  • Be sure to have World Friendship Fund collection cans available at every meeting and event.
  • Have the unit treasurer forward contributions directly to the International Department, Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 152079, Irving, TX 75015-2079.
  • Plan a ceremony and present the World Friendship Fund certificate the International Department will send you. This presentation could be made at a unit meeting, parents’ night activity, or court of honor.
