Summer Camp Necessities

It’s almost the best time of the year — summer! — which means it’s almost time to camp. While camp this year will look a bit different because of COVID-19, there’s still a lot of fun to be had as we #GetReadyForCamp!

Everyone has their own list of camping essentials and “must-haves”. Here’s ours! Check out these items that you won’t want to leave home without.

1. Luci Inflatable Solar Light and Mobile Charger - Using this lantern is super simple – just sit it in the sun to charge it up! It comes with a super handy strap so that you can hang it from the top of your tent or cabin, and has adjustable brightness levels (which is great if you need a little light to bop from your tent to the restroom at night). Even better – this lantern is waterproof (IP67 rating) and even includes a mobile charger that will come in handy during any outdoor adventures on cloudy days!

2. Black Diamond Spot 325 Headlamp - This is the perfect hands-free way to light up the night. The Spot 325 has a low profile and an IPX8 waterproof housing, making it super portable and durable. With six settings and a battery meter, you can adjust for the perfect brightness while managing for the battery life you need! Finally, the updated user interface with Brightness Memory feature makes this headlamp really easy to use while you're on the go.

3. Leatherman Wave Multi-Tool - A Scout is nothing if they aren’t prepared, and that’s why having a good multi-tool is important. This is one of Leatherman’s most popular tools - with good reason! It’s 4 inches long and includes 3-inch-long blades, two types of pliers, a screwdriver, scissors, files, saw, can opener, eyeglasses bit, and much more!

4. BSA Hammock with Straps - A hammock is the peak relaxation while at camp. You’re not on a camp mattress (that may or may not be thick enough) and you’ll be the envy of those who didn’t think to bring one. Plus, it’s a great place to nap! Remember to always have those straps, otherwise, you can’t hang it up.

5. A Bandana (or 3) - Bandanas are dang useful. Find something neat on a hike and don’t want to lose it at the bottom of your pack? Tie it up in a bandana. Need to tie something to your pack? Use a bandana. Need to dry something off? Bandanas work as a towel in a pinch! They can also be used as a mask in a moment's notice. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. We recommend the Wilderness Survival Bandana from the Scout Shop because not only does it do all that - but it’s also moisture-wicking and quick-drying, so it can help keep you cool in the summer or warm in the winter.
