It's that time of year again - a fresh start for the Scouting community! Whether you're a newcomer to the Scouting America or a parent of a returning Scout, you may need a refresher on the current Scouts BSA uniform. We always strive for improvement, so we're excited to announce our newest uniform options for the new Scouting year. We've created a brief rundown of the Scouts BSA uniform to simplify things. Please don't hesitate to ask your leaders if you have any additional questions as you embark on this year's adventures!



The Official Scouts BSA Uniform List


In a nutshell, the Scouts BSA uniform consists of some basic staples:

  • TopThe official tan uniform shirt is available with long or short sleeves and has button-flap pockets
  • Bottom: You have a few options available for these and we break them all down below!
  • Belt: Official green web belt with metal buckle
  • Cap: Official green hat
  • Socks: Official socks are available in three lengths: ankle, crew, and knee. Tiger socks have an orange band on the top.
  • Neckerchief and Neckerchief SlideThere are many neckwear options for the Scouts BSA program, all decided on as a Troop. Chat with your Troop Leaders to make sure you grab the proper neckwear. 
  • Insignia
  • Council Shoulder Patch or CSP (denotes which council you are a part of)
  • Shoulder Loops
  • World Crest Emblem
  • Optional World Crest ring
  • Unit Numerals (Patrol Emblems come later)

Uniform Bottom Options

There are a few options to choose from when it comes to approved Scouts BSA bottoms!

  • Roll-Up Pants: Versatile performance fabric made from a cotton, nylon, and spandex blend, making them great for outdoor adventures and fall/winter Scouting events/weekend trips. They have contoured waists to make them comfortable for all-day wear and lots of pockets for all of your essentials. Youth sizes feature an adjustable waistband as well to keep them growing with your Scout!
  • Shorts: The blend of fabric is lightweight and durable, and youth sizes have an adjustable waistband. They are perfect for your adventures and camping trips! Just like the Roll-Up Pants, the shorts feature extra pockets for storage, and the contoured waistband adds comfort!
  • Skorts: Made of cotton, nylon, and spandex blend that functions perfectly at ceremonies, troop meetings, and Scouting adventures! It has a bit of stretch for added range of movement, along with pockets, making it a comfortable and easy option.
  • Switchback Pants: These are classic pants that have zip-off legs that can turn them into shorts! The youth sizes feature that handy adjustable waistband, and all sizes have lots of pockets, along with a comfortable fabric blend that is both durable and comfortable.

Just a little Idea on uniform shirt. Why do they not sew on a Velcro circle on the uniform and position patches? Youth leaders change positions, and this would make it easier than constantly sewing or gluing on these patches.
