Osprey grew from one person's desire to use and make more comfortable, longer lasting and functionally sound packs. Over the last 40 years Osprey has stayed true to this ethos. Since being founded in 1974, every single product design bearing the Osprey name has passed the hands of owner, Mike Pfotenhauer, undergoing relentless scrutiny. From stitching the first lines of custom-fitted packs, to meticulously designing innovative products with innovative features, to forging personal relationships with the sewing operators who construct the packs, Mike has been the unbreakable thread that makes Osprey a company like no other.

Osprey will repair any damage or defect for any reason free of charge – whether it was purchased in 1974 or yesterday. If we are unable to perform a functional repair on your pack, we will happily replace it. We proudly stand behind this guarantee, so much so that it bears the signature of company founder and head designer, Mike Pfotenhauer.

The best way to ensure proper pack fit is to go into your local Scout Shop and have a professional do it. They can ensure a proper measurement and you will also be able to try on various pack sizes. Our women’s packs come in torso lengths that best fit women’s bodies. All packs come standard with women’s-specific harness and hipbelt. The women’s harness is narrow at its entry point in the backpanel, and tapers slightly outward below the collarbone to offer more comfort and freedom for the chest area. The women’s hipbelt is canted slightly upward to best cup the hips and is patterned with a narrower profile. Our women’s packs also come in women’s specific colors.
