Easily Assemble Your Cub Scout Uniform

Assembling your Cub Scout uniform can be an exciting experience, and ensuring you have all the necessary pieces is important before the fun of Scouting begins. First and foremost, you'll need a uniform top and bottom. The uniform top is typically a blue shirt with the Cub Scout logo and patches, while the uniform bottom can vary from blue shorts to pants, depending on your preference. If you're looking to save a bit of money, you're in luck! For a limited time only, Scout Shop is offering a 10% discount on uniform bottoms when you purchase a matching uniform top. This deal is available both online and in-store, so you can choose the option that works best for you.

What are the Components of a Cub Scout Uniform?

All of the Uniform Components

In a nutshell, the Cub Scouts uniform consists of a few different aspects, and again, your leaders will be able to guide you on how your specific unit “looks.”

Lion Rank

  • Top: Official Lion rank t-shirt
  • Bottoms: You have a few different optional options for these, and we break them down below
  • Belt: Official optional navy-blue web belt with metal buckle
  • Cap: Official navy-blue Lion cap
  • Socks: Cub Scout socks are optional for the Lion rank
  • Neckerchief: Your den will decide if you will wear the optional neckerchief.
  • Neckerchief slide: There is an optional neckerchief slide available

There is no uniform inspection sheet for Lions.

Tiger, Wolf, and Bear Ranks

Webelos

  • Top: The official tan uniform shirt is available with long or short sleeves and has button-flap pockets.
  • Bottoms: You have a few different options for these, from shorts to the classic zip-offs.
  • Belt: Official navy-blue web belt with a metal buckle or the green web belt with a BSA buckle is acceptable for the 2022-23 program year
  • Cap: Official green hat with Webelos plaid front and Webelos emblem.
  • Shoulder Loops: Webelos wear navy blue.
  • Socks: Official socks are available in three lengths: ankle, crew, and knee. Tiger socks have an orange band on the top.
  • Neckerchief: Webelos plaid triangular neckerchief with Webelos logo (official BSA neckerchiefs are the only neckerchiefs that are part of the uniform)
  • Neckerchief slide: Official gold-tone metal slide with Webelos emblem (Cub Scouts may wear handmade neckerchief slides)
  • The Webelos Colors: Optional uniform piece that is worn on the right sleeve to display the Webelos Adventure Pins that have been earned. If the Webelos Colors are not used, Webelos Adventure Pins may be worn on the Webelos hat.
  • Insignia

The patches/emblems listed above are required as a part of the official uniform and are sold separately from your shirt. Your leaders can guide you on placement or check out placement instructions here. This official uniform site shows you where to put each required patch and where to place additional patches once they are earned.

Is there a timeline for when Cub Scout uniforms will have “Boy Scouts of America” replaced? Conversations with my three female Tigers are unnecessarily difficult. Let’s just get them changed!

Hi Benjamin! This is a running change that will be made; unfortunately, we do not have a timeline on it, but it is in the works and happening.
