Get Ready for Pinewood Derby with These (VIRTUAL) Events!

Um, can someone tell me where this year went? I would say that I am a little dismayed by that… but holy moly, IT IS PINEWOOD DERBY SEASON! The excitement for one of my FAVORITE times of year totally supersedes everything else.

This year, we’ve shifted things to make sure that everyone can participate in Champ Camp – all our workshops will be online! We’ve pulled together a lineup that will support you in throwing a virtual event (if that is the route your Pack or Den is going), along with a couple of workshops to give you car-building support.

How to Host a Virtual PWD: Wednesday, 12/16 at 4:30pm EST

This live event will be all about how to host a virtual Pinewood Derby. I will be chatting with Anthony, our National Director of the Cub Scout program (so definitely a Pinewood Derby expert!), and we’ll go through how you can create an event that is both safe and super fun, no matter what is happening with the pandemic. Leaders and parents, this one’s for you – we want you to feel supported in creating a successful event that is FUN for everyone!

Wheels, Weights and Shapes Workshop: Monday, 1/11 at 3pm EST

Gina from Boys' Life Magazine and her dad will be coming at you live with a breakdown of a few easy-to-use weights (and how to best make use of them!), along with a basic tutorial on how to cut your car into a some of the most common car shapes, AND an unboxing of some of our favorite products. Parents, this event is for you to watch with your Scouts!

Decorate with Decals and Effects: Tuesday, 1/12 at 3pm EST

In our last live event workshop, Aaron and Gina will be talking all about how to decorate using decals AND how to install sound and/or light kits! They will have some unboxing fun with the kits and then walk through the steps to install the kits (it is WAY easier than you think!). To wrap it all up, they will be talking to Mallori, our PWD product expert on how to run a Black Light Race (because how better to show off those light kits and glow-in-the-dark accessories?!). Again, parents, this event is for you to watch with your Scouts.

Pinewood Derby season couldn’t come at a better time, and we can’t WAIT to see what creations all of you build!
