A Bold New Chapter Begins in Scouting America

Shaping the Future of Scouting

After 115 years as the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), we’re thrilled to announce a historic rebranding: Scouting America! The new name will take effect on February 8, 2025, a significant day marking both our founding in 1910 and the beginning of this exciting new chapter. This name change is more than just a shift in title—it reflects our evolution into a unified, forward-thinking movement dedicated to unity, progress, and community

Why Scouting America?

The decision to rebrand stems from the need to better represent who we are today. While the name "Boy Scouts of America" has a rich legacy, it no longer fully captures the breadth of our members. Programs like Cub Scouts, which now welcome both boys and girls and Scouts BSA, which became co-ed in 2019, reflect Scouting’s transformation into a more inclusive movement.

Scouting America encapsulates our commitment to welcoming all youth and families while honoring the traditions that have shaped us for generations. It’s a name that resonates with today’s Scouts and their families, ensuring the future remains bright and unified.

A Unifying Identity

The rebrand brings all of Scouting under one clear banner: Scouting America. This unified identity strengthens connections across all our programs, including:

  • Cub Scouts: A family-friendly program for children in grades K-5.
  • Scouts BSA: The flagship program for youth ages 11-17, focused on leadership, merit badges, and outdoor adventures.
  • Specialized Programs: High-adventure activities in Venturing, maritime exploration with Sea Scouting, and career opportunities through Exploring.

Under Scouting America, these programs will continue to thrive and grow, with an emphasis on building community rather than just individual accomplishments.

February 8, 2025: A New Era Begins

The timing of this name change is no accident. February 8, 2025, will mark our 115th anniversary—a date deeply embedded in Scouting’s history. On this day, we honor Sir Robert Baden-Powell’s legacy while embracing the future.

This change highlights our ability to adapt while staying true to our core mission: preparing young people for life through leadership, resilience, and environmental stewardship.

Modernizing for Today's Youth

Scouting America represents a bold step forward in meeting the needs of today’s youth. While the core of Scouting—camping, hiking, canoeing, and other outdoor adventures—remains timeless, the program now incorporates skills designed for the modern world. With a focus on STEM programs, Scouts can explore digital technology, robotics, coding, and engineering, equipping them for a tech-driven future. Sustainability initiatives teach Scouts the importance of environmental stewardship, preparing them to be mindful citizens in a world increasingly focused on conservation. By blending traditional Scouting values with modern interests, Scouting America empowers young people to meet real-world challenges head-on while maintaining a spirit of adventure. This modernized approach ensures that Scouting continues to be a vibrant and relevant force for good in the lives of youth across the country.

A Commitment to Unity

This change has been years in the making. In 2017, girls joined Cub Scouts, and by 2019, Scouts BSA became co-ed, allowing all youth the chance to earn the prestigious Eagle Scout rank. The name "Boy Scouts of America" no longer accurately reflected this inclusive vision. Scouting America eliminates confusion and makes it clear: Scouting is for everyone!

Overcoming Challenges

The transition to Scouting America reflects resilience in the face of adversity. Recent years have brought significant challenges, including membership declines and financial pressures, but Scouting’s core mission has endured. Scouting America is not just a new name—it’s a renewed promise to remain relevant and impactful for today’s youth. It represents a determined effort to innovate, revitalize, and overcome obstacles in a crowded extracurricular landscape. By embracing change, we’re building a stronger foundation for future generations. The new name also symbolizes a commitment to transparency and growth, inspiring confidence in families, supporters, and communities nationwide. Scouting America is proof that challenges can be met with creativity, unity, and an unwavering dedication to service.

Strengthening Local Connections

Scouting America reaffirms our deep connection to communities across the country. For over a century, we have been a cornerstone of civic engagement, teaching youth the values of leadership, service, and teamwork. By simplifying our name, we send a powerful message: Scouting is about serving and uniting all Americans. Whether it’s organizing local clean-ups, supporting food drives, or mentoring young leaders, Scouting America remains rooted in the neighborhoods and communities we serve. The name reflects timeless values—unity, service, and leadership—while strengthening our ability to address the unique needs of each community. Our mission is clear: to inspire youth to be active citizens, compassionate neighbors, and confident leaders in an ever-changing world.
