Where are patches placed on a Cub Scout uniform?

The correct placement of patches on a Cub Scout uniform varies by emblem:

  • Council Shoulder Patch: Left sleeve
  • Unit Numeral Patch: Below the Council shoulder patch
  • U.S. Flag Emblem: Upper right sleeve (pre-sewn)
  • Den Number Patch: Below the U.S. flag (leave about a ½-inch space)

Is the Cub Scout uniform mandatory for all activities?

Yes, Cub Scouts are required to wear the official uniform corresponding to their rank—Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, or Arrow of Light—at all Scouting events. This includes meetings, outings, and any activity involving their den or pack.


What does the full Cub Scout uniform include?
  • Lion Scouts: Blue t-shirt with Lion logo. Optional items include blue pants, shorts, or skorts, blue socks, a blue web belt with metal buckle, and a blue Lion cap. A Lion neckerchief and slide are optional.
  • Tiger Scouts: Blue uniform shirt (long or short sleeves), matching pants, shorts, or skorts, blue socks, web belt with metal buckle, blue cap with an orange front panel, orange neckerchief, and neckerchief slide.
  • Wolf Scouts: Blue uniform shirt (long or short sleeves), matching pants, shorts, or skorts, blue socks, web belt with metal buckle, blue cap with a red front panel, red neckerchief, and neckerchief slide.

  • Bear Scouts: Blue uniform shirt (long or short sleeves), matching pants, shorts, or skorts, blue socks, web belt with metal buckle, blue cap with a light blue front panel, light blue neckerchief, and neckerchief slide.
  • Webelos Scouts: Blue uniform shirt (long or short sleeves), with options for blue pants, shorts, or skorts. Blue socks, web belt with metal buckle, blue cap with a plaid front panel, plaid neckerchief, and neckerchief slide.
  • Arrow of Light Scouts: Transitioning to Scouts BSA, these scouts wear a tan shirt (available in short and long sleeves) with green shoulder loops, and olive pants or shorts. They can choose between a web or leather belt. This uniform signifies their readiness to join Scouts BSA.
